Ancient Egypt
• Complete this journal topic: As groups of people began living together in one place, they began to support each other as a community. This meant that people could start to focus on ideas, technologies and innovations that would change the lives of mankind. You have already chosen a technology that you feel was the most important change in how people lived. The next civilization we are studying is ancient Egypt. How do you think the Egyptians will use the technology you have chosen? Do you think they will add anything to its’ development? Will they bring the technology closer to how we use it today? What are your predictions and ideas?
• Read pages 86 to 93 in the textbook. In a group of 3, complete the activities in Try This.

• Check out this Hieroglyphic Translator Create a cartouche of your name using any media (paper, paint, clay, ink, for example)
• Red pages 94 to 104 in the textbook. Choose one topic – The Nile, Mummies, Pyramids, Tomb Items, Mythology, Pharaohs or Hieroglyphics and create either a podcast or vodcast on your topic. Each group member should contribute about one minute on a unique part of this topic. You will need to visit the library for more resources.
• Read pages 10 and 106 in the textbook. Complete the activity in Try This on page 106 and Think For Yourself on page 107.
• Challenge your group to a webquest – choose one of the following:
Building Monuments in Ancient Egypt or Explore Ancient Egypt or King Tutankhamun – Was it Murder?
• explore this virtual tour of ancient Egypt (it continues after Mesopotamia)
• on your own (and using the brochure template in Microsoft Word or AppleWorks) create a travel brochure for your travel agent business that will tell people what to expect when they take a holiday to ancient Egypt. Include information on possible attractions, hotels, people, customs, food and what to pack. You can add your own original illustrations. YOU WILL NEED TO USE YOUR IMAGINATION!!
